Unsafe Drugs :: Abilify

ABILIFY - WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ABILIFY INQUIRIES OR CASES!

In late 2003 the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of the drug Aripiprazole, which is better known to the public as the prescription medication Abilify. Manufactured by both Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals Inc., Abilify is available in a variety of forms including oral tablets, an oral solution, or as an injection solution for intramuscular injection. Used to treat schizophrenia and more recently approved for bipolar disorder and depression, Abilify is certainly not without its share of potentially serious side effects.

First of all, it is important to understand that the risk of suicidal thoughts and suicidal behavior, especially in adolescents and young adults is much more prevalent in patients that have been using any kind of anti-depressant medication, Abilify included. Because of this, it is recommended that Abilify only be taken by those that are at least 24 years of age or older.  Prescribing the drug to someone younger than that may be medical malpractice.  And prescribing the drug Abilify without prescribing other drugs first, may be medical malpractice.  Abilify should only be prescribed as a last resort and with great care.

It is also important to note that an increased mortality rate has been seen amongst dementia patients who use prescription anti-depressants or antipsychotics, including the drug Abilify. Evidence can be seen in this from the results of 10-week clinical trial where it was found that the rate of death amongst those who had been treated with an anti-depressant was almost 2% higher than those who had only taken a placebo; researchers say this is particularly prevalent amongst elderly women.

Other studies have revealed even more dangers associated with Abilify and other antipsychotics and anti-depressant medication. This includes an increased risk of stroke, Hyperglycemia and Diabetes Mellitus amongst elderly patients, as well.

The best thing that you or a loved one can do before taking any kind of medication, whether it is over-the-counter or prescription is to properly educate yourself on the drug; no matter how innocent it may seem. For some it is too late, however – and if you or someone you know has suffered from any of the serious side effects that are associated with the drug Abilify, it is important that you seek out the appropriate legal help immediately.

Court cases dealing with potential death as a result of Abilify or any other drug are an important matter, and this is a legal issue that requires the serious and professional attention of a fully-qualified Abilify attorney.
