Fen-Phen – Fen Phen, which is the drug cocktail of Pondimin and Redux, was prescribed to people who were looking to lose weight.  The side effects, however, could be life threathening and persist years after ceasing to take the drug.  The generic form of Pondimin is Fenfluramine, and the generic form of Redux is Dexfenfluramine.  Thus the name Fen Phen.

In 1997, Fen-Phen was removed from the market by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories after pressure from the FDA when it was discovered that Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) and Heart Valve Disease was caused by use of the drug.  Unfortunately, it may take years for the symptoms to surface and they may then be misdiagnosed.
