PAXIL - GlaxoSmithKline PLC (NYSE: GSK) manufactures Paroxetine commonly referred to as Paxil and Paxil CR to treat depression. Paxil has been cited by the FDA as causing an increase in suicidal thoughts and behavior particularly among children and teens, as well as addiction leading to withdrawal symptoms that can be extremely serious and difficult to overcome.
Paxil is also know for causing birth defects when expecting mothers take the drug during their pregnancy. The FDA recommends that women who are pregnant discontinue the treatment during their pregnancy due to an increase in birth defects, particularly heart defects and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN).
