:: Vytorin
|
VYTORIN - Ezetimibe/simvastatin is more commonly known as Vytorin or Inegy. It is a combination of the statin Zocor and the cholesterol-lowering drug Zetia, which is marketed as a joint venture by the pharmaceutical giants Merck & Co. and Schering-Plough. It was first introduced to the market as a method to block cholesterol build up and the absorption of cholesterol in the system. It is proclaimed to inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase required by the body to create cholesterol, though recent studies seriously question the drug's effectiveness.
Side effects of Vytorin are myopathy (muscle weakness), myalgia (muscle pain), Rhabdomyolysis (a breakdown of skeletal tissues), abdominal pain, hepatitis, angeioedema (swelling of the skin, underlying tissues, and mucous membranes), fatigue, eczema, headaches, depression, or upper respiratory infections. In recent studies, serious links to cancer have been attributed to Vytorin as well as a connection to fatal heart failure due to a narrowing of the aortic valve. When taking Vytorin, it is important to be alert for signs of an allergic reaction that causes angeioedema. Swelling of the face, nasal passages, or throat can accelerate into a deadly emergency in minutes and needs to be dealt with swiftly.
Many of the known side effects of Vytorin can create major difficulties in the everyday lives of the patients who use it. Job loss, family stress, loss of relationships, neglect, and other issues affecting patients who take this drug have a tremendous impact on the quality of life they and their families lead. The fatal side effects of Vytorin cause serious grief and distress to family members and may leave them without not only a father or mother, or husband or wife, but a provider as well.
If you or a loved one have taken the prescription drugs Vytorin or Inegy, and have been diagnosed with cancer or suffered a heart condition possibly associated with Vytorin or Inegy, it is important to seek legal counsel immediately. Litigating cases against powerful pharmaceutical companies is complex and expensive. You need expert advice and guidance for a successful outcome.
